The ancient teleporter lurched into action. Its mile-wide gyroscopic gears spooled. Every crystal in the Bay began to resonate and radiate. The atmosphere tickled and prickled with static energy.
With a cosmic crack, spacetime was sundered between New York City and San Francisco.
For that fraction of a fraction of a second, up quarks switched places with down quarks, electrons and positrons became indistinguishable, and the entropy of the universe decreased by a modicum.
Like a meteorite, Nik landed on the top of Bernal Heights Park. And he brought cookies.
(The Bernal microwave tower would later record this fringe event as a momentous disturbance in the universal laws of physics.)

I'm a student at MIT in Bioengineering a Ph.D. student at Stanford in Bioengineering. And though I may have made a terrible life choice, I occasionally have fun.
